GOOGLE PHOTOS
This collaboration with Google was for their Photos collage editor launch. It was a great way to showcase a variety of Yao’s patterns on a global scale and across devices. Each joyful art harmonized with the user’s photos in their Memories. Some were also marked for certain occasions like Mother’s Day and New Year’s Eve.

tulip dance
Launched before Mother’s Day, this floral pattern captures both the feeling of crisp, spring mornings and the love we have for our families.
aqua waves
A popular pattern with a neutral, soft palette, this design was selected for its modern feel and can be used for any occasion.
confetti
This pattern was inspired by all things birthday! It is a simple but joyful design that says so much with so little. It is important that this artwork does not feel too busy and can compliment any photo.
blooming- gold
Originally, this pattern was inspired in equal parts by the swirling stars in our night sky and by imagining a flower blooming. The spirit of movement gives this design its beauty and elegance.
Blooming- green
As a variation on Blooming Gold, this background art takes out the shine but brings in a verdant green that compliments all occasions.
celebrations
Commissioned specifically for this project, Yao was inspired by the fireworks of New Year’s Eve. The fun challenge was how to incorporate the brightness and energy of New Year’s Eve without it overpowering the photos of users.
lanterns
Commissioned to mark the Lunar New Year, this design went through many different iterations while trying to find what would appeal the most with people globally. And as a Chinese American, this was a personal chance for Yao to share a bit of her own culture through her art.

For Lunar New Year, this Lantern option has a specially designed Rabbit to mark the zodiac animal of the launch year. This icon is refined and universal- without the use of words or other elements, it marks the memories while still remaining seamless with the rest of the design.
