Yao is an artist known for her serene yet vibrant watercolors. Discovering her passion at just four years old in a drawing class, she has spent a lifetime creating with her hands. After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and working in the fashion industry, she launched her dream business in 2012.
Based in Columbus, Ohio, Yao Cheng Design is an independent studio dedicated to making joyful, intentional art. In an over-saturated digital world, Yao’s watercolors offer a welcome pause—turning nature and daily experiences into a powerful form of expression meant to bring joy into your everyday living.

Joyful Watercolors
Yao discovered watercolor over a decade ago. It was immediately clear that this is how her art would flourish. It is an endlessly immersive- you cannot help but be pulled into its world of swirling shapes and shifting colors...There are unpredictable moments and impossible mistakes, but watercolor teaches her to be ok with imperfections. In fact, it is to be celebrated and listened to. Here, in this world of wonder, art is momentous and makes you believe that anything is possible.

What about custom print sizes?
Yes! Yao works with customers often on custom sizes that will suit your space. The maximum width is 44 inches. Email Yao for custom sizing!
Can you do commissioned art?
